I can see your point. Parrots are a very different kind of pet. If you
need a quieter and more mild parrot with less destructive bents., then
choose one that fits those needs. A pionus is a very quiet and sweet
parrot. Some of the smaller conures are fun, can learn to talk a
little, have mild voices and so on. A budgie (parakeet) is as much
parrot as those biggies your sister has. And they can develop quite the
vocabulary. A parrot can be such a special friend. I would love to
have more.
Getting back to chickens, there are plenty of people who look askance at
people with backyard chickens that are pets. I have a friend with a
rural background who couldn't imagine that a chicken could be a pet.
She remembers them only as dirty farm animals who are stupid, cause a
big stink and are basically mean. The concept of me wanting one as a
pet is just bizarre. And she's quite certain that there's no way that
chickens can be friendly or know their name or come when you call or any
pet things like that. No matter what I say, she *knows* that I'm dead
wrong.
So your point about parrots is based on some bad experiences. We can
respect the each other's experiences. My rural friend can't respect my
opinions and experiences with chickens (albeit very minimal
experience). We chicken-folk can do better. :-)
