Re: [CHICKENS-101] Marlene--Livestock Guard Dogs

I am not Marlene, but wanted to warn you that Anatolians are not always good with poultry. I just re-homed a male and am working on rehoming his sister. They are both chicken killers and we think one of them killed a cat, too.  I have spoken to many people who have agreed that they can make wonderful livestock guardians, but by livestock I mean sheep, goats, cattle, alpacas.
My Pyrs are my BEST livestock guardians.

I would like to get a livestock guard dog. I see under your signature you raise Anatolians.

What breeds make good livestock guard dogs?

How old do you get a puppy? Can it be a house dog/livestock guard dog?

Thanks for your any advice you can offer.

Janet
