Ha! My sisters and I found a favorite tree of the local Great Horned Owl. The base was surrounded by owl pellets. We did 4-H project on them for the County fair. I don't remember how we did, but I learned a ton about owls from dissecting the pellets.

Yes owls will catch mice and other rodents .... small mammals possible
chicks but not full sized hens even bantam ...unless forced to by lack
of their normal food supply. If you know where the Owls nests you can
look for Owl pellets ... a few inches long and oblong .... these would
contain the undigested bones and matter from an Owl. You would find the
bones of critters who became 'lunch" :-)
