Hi Anita; First off you can't use the term "reasonably priced coop"
there is no such animal. How grand a coop you need depends mostly on where you live. In cold climates you need a bigger coop than in warm places. In the 'burbs' it probably should look more finished to keep the neighbors happy. You should check local building codes, quietly. You might need 'stealth coop'. Your coop should be designed for your convenience. As long as there is protection from the elements and predators, a roost, a nest, food and water chickens are fairly liberal. If Eggs are your prime reason for having chickens I would advise one of the sex-links. They tend to be friendly, good producers of eggs and reasonably easy to take care of. Heritage breeds tend not to be as productive but make up for it in personality and color. Rhode Island Reds are an exception as far as producing eggs. While they are champion egg layers they are usually aggressive. If you chose these you will need suitable clothing. Kevlar or something equal. While Silkies are really nice they are primarily eye candy.
