Oats are fine. That's what "scratch feed" is, usually whole oats and wheat and cracked corn. Also called "COB", corn, oats, barley. Or whatever is cheapest at the time, it can vary some. Generally cheaper and used to stretch the layer pellets, especially in an off season when they are not laying.
