Amen. I'm at times unpopular with a few of my relatives who continually forward those almost believable emails about every subject under the sun. I'll actually take the 30 seconds required to research them and if turns out to be BS, I'll do a "Reply All" to everyone they sent it to with the truth on the subject and links to back it up.
I've been accused of intentionally trying to make some relatives look stupid, to which I've been known to reply, "You don't need my help there. I'm just making sure people don't believe the misinformation you passed along." Some eventually figure it out and check out the things they forward, some just keep reaffirming their stupidity.

AND no one wants to take the time and effort to do any research on anything.  They just believe it.  I read it on the internet, after all, so it MUST be true.

Because it is more polite than telling someone they are lying. I've heard that that same bunk off and on for years and years, and no one knows who started it. It's a bunch of hooey.  What is more polite and less to start a flaming war?  You are full of hooey? Or It's an old wives tale?  LOL!   Usually there is a basis for an an old wives tale, but in this case someone made the statement and people decided to believe it and repeat it.
