Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hatcheries

Welp is excellent if you aren't looking for "fancy" chickens. McMurry I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Meyer is also good.
This year I ordered from Ideal. They screwed up, most of my order was DOA or didn't make it. And were very nice about being honest about it. They are sending replacements later this week. This is the first time in a couple of years that I actually ordered chicks. Last year I hatched and bought some from my feed store. I won't do that again. I love the store, don't get me wrong, they sell Homegrown feed and it's the only place I can find it. My peeve is that he leaves the dead/dying birds in the boxes with the others - Oh they'll get better. Most people don't see this because he boxes them.
My Pet Chicken let's you do small orders, but you PAY for the shipping. I'm getting ready to order standards from The Poultry Hatchery, they are closer to where I live and have the breeds I haven't been able to find otherwise. Right now their minimum is only 15, as the weather gets warmer that goes down to 3.
I will search the hatcheries by catalog or online, sign up for their emails you can get some awesome deals that way, my Ideal order .99 for mixed bantams! Generally I order online or call the order in.
Make sure you let your PO know you are getting chicks delivered. I always go in person with a piece of paper with my name and phone. They usually call around 7a to let me know they are there.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Hatcheries

I was interested in knowing if anyone orders chicks on line or catalog.  And if so which Hatcheries are most used.
A friend just placed an order from Murray Mc Murray.
Just wondering opinions from others.
