Aaaah! I had never thought of that, that maybe one of the live mealworms might escape during feeding! I only gave mine live mealworms once (can't get live ones here in the winter), and they only get dried mealworms now.

I know they do not fly, their wings are fused. For someone with smaller flocks, time for their 3-5 mo life cycle, they may be worth the bother. I think the people who make out the best with them are the people who sell them for others to start them. There is something about raising an insect that can be a carier of disease and a scourge in a poultry barn that completely
turns me off to them. They were a challenge to get rid of in my MIL's barn. Happy raising to you. Hopefully your hens do not miss eating any.
