For the past several weeks since it got cold, I have been throwing alfalfa in the pens. Twice a day, I rake it all up into a big pile, toss on a bit of scratch and the chickens go wild. About 10 minutes after I have raked it up, it is scattered everywhere again.
Yesterday, I emptied a big pot that I had horseradish in. I found 23 grub worms in the dirt. You should have seen the commotion when I started throwing them one by one into the pens. The Orps scarfed them up. The Silkies stood around them and had a committee meeting to decide whether they were fit to eat.

I realize that, it is just that, UNTIL I start cleaning, there are FAR more interesting things for them to be hunting. As soon as I start raking, let the feast begin! lol (And they don't go for the ground I just raked which might have bugs or something - no, they want the pile because, surely if I am gathering it into a pile, it must be the very BEST possible stuff on the face of the earth! lol
