Was -8 here in the eye (center) of WI that day, -18 that night with wind chill factors of 40 to 45 below zero. Yesterday managed to get to zero for about a half an hour, otherwise -2 all day and -13 with wind chills of 25-30 below zero last night. Horses & chickens & Guinea fowl got through it just fine, 'tho I had one friend new to chickens find one of her 2 littlest chickens (adults) fallen over not moving in a corner of her small coop. She brought her inside and called me - the little hen is doing just fine now, will stay in the rest of the winter and be joined by her little rooster partner just as soon as my friend picks up my "chicken infirmary" small dog kennel-cage from me.
By the way, what is the breed of chicken that has feathers that - the way she describes it "looks like curls of shavings that come off of wood when you're carving it"?
