I use the plastic "milk crate" type things. You can get them at Walmart and since they are so tall just use a hack saw and cut then down so they are about a foot high and set the waterer on this. Since it is open weave the water and shavings fall through and don't build up. They are easy to spray down when they do get dirty.

Ok, need some advice:  We have tried everything we could think of to water our chickens.  No matter what we use, in one day the water is completely completely dirty.  We have use trough, we have used the hanging waterer, we have used the dog waterer that has the large bottle above the holder.  Any ideas?  Unfortunately their "castle" is across the street - we own both property and both sides - and have no running water where they are.  We have to haul the water and during the winter there is a lot of snow between :"them and us".

So any ideas would be wonderful.
