Ol' George--since you're in southern N.H. as I am, by any chance did you get a short but heavy "bloom" of irridescent blue-green "house-flies" late this summer? It wasn't connected with the chickens, because at least one other horse-owning friend had them around the same time (we discovered our mutual infestation by accident). The flies were different in colour to any I'd ever seen. They were not blue-bottles.
<g> Remember I said DH likes to see what the chickens will eat? He was all for offering the fly-paper strips to the chickens to see if they'd pick off the flies... Somehow I didn't think fly-paper and chickens were a wise combination!
