I believe a person can never be too safe. I would put them up off the floor higher than any water could flood.
Its better to be ready ahead of the storm than caught in the middle.
Good luck & our prayers will be with all in the storms path.

I know I'm probably over-reacting, but we're contemplating a horrendous storm early next week. We seem to get these in the late summer/fall lately. But this looks like it has the potential for really ugly. Is anyone else in the northeast wondering about the approaching storm? They've said "if" it hits, it will be more destructive than Irene...Irene was pretty bad!!! I think our coop is sound, but even so, I'm thinking of putting the girls into a dog crate in our barn (our barn is being used as a garage, and I don't want them to have free rein in there amongst the motor oil and such).
