I'd put them in a crate with water and food where ever you think they will be the safest. Might want to tie the crate down too somewhere where they cannot drown or blow away in case the barn looses it's roof. I hate to admit that when I watched a tornado form in our pasture and touch down to the left of us, to join several other tornadoes that were tearing up my city, I headed for my barn, and stayed with my chickens under a table.

I know I'm probably over-reacting, but we're contemplating a horrendous storm early next week. We seem to get these in the late summer/fall lately. But this looks like it has the potential for really ugly. Is anyone else in the northeast wondering about the approaching storm? They've said "if" it hits, it will be more destructive than Irene...Irene was pretty bad!!! I think our coop is sound, but even so, I'm thinking of putting the girls into a dog crate in our barn (our barn is being used as a garage, and I don't want them to have free rein in there amongst the motor oil and such).
