Re: [CHICKENS-101] Broody hens and hatching eggs

I've bred unrelated frizzle silkie to unrelated frizzle silkie and they turned out with great feathering. Their  offspring had to be bred to straight.
(I have Claude McAllister's original sizzle/frizzle silkies and bred them to my best silkies to get very long frizzled down.)
You'll have Chex's offspring too, not just the cockerel with the silkie genes. I have a cream/white silkie serama pullet that I am watching grow up, she is very pretty. I am not going to breed silkie seramas, I'll have to sell/rehome her even though she is adorable. I allow myself to keep 3 males and 12 straight feather regular females.
I came in because I managed to get my feet and bottom of my pants wet while putting dirty dishes on to soak to wash, and had to change. It is so cold out!! Our weather man promised 50's and changed the high to 45 this afternoon. There is so much to do it is mind boggling. I lost 2 days to grading tests and a couple to being sick; now I am behind with what I want to do and what I have to do. Back off I go. I have to go get bedding too because of the temperature drop. There is not the same amount of bedding in the bags that there used to be and it all packed down. Need to add another 20 or more to main barn. Wish I had the machinery to make pine flakes. Maybe that will be next. I have the pines...

Ya I was thinking the frizzle plus the roo that has silkie serama genes could be interesting. Maybe a sizzle serama. Yes frizzle can't be bred to frizzle. I don't plan on ever having so many coming out of my ears that I can't keep track of breedings. I have a spreadsheet app on my phone so I can track breedings of all of my birds. Does that imply an addiction or just responsible breeding? Lol I choose to believe the later.
I just think they're so cute they'll be little pets. I do want to preserve the integrity of the breed and make sure I don't breed faults.
I wish we lived closer too!
Thanks!
Marla
