Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: What would you do???

<<and even 'tho I *know* there are only 2 neighbors barely close enough to ever see anything going on, it IS something & at least enough to scare off ill-doer's.>>

Even if there's not a formal Neighborhood Watch, and even if there are no close neighbors, it doesn't hurt to tell good neighbors of a problem.  If they see a particular car (if you have a make/color of this woman's car) or even a strange car that seems to be around frequently, they can let you know.  The most we can see (or our country neighbors can see of us) is lights--and only once the leaves are off--but we do tend to take notice of cars parked anywhere, or ones that pass through without reason (our road doesn't "go" anywhere, just makes a loop).

<g> We even have a certain reputation...  A couple of years ago in late fall, I heard the horses galloping and blowing just at dusk.  Went outside, and saw a black bear sow and cubs cutting through the pasture on the other side of the long driveway, so I went into the horse pasture to comfort the horses.  Just after the bears crossed the road into the woods, an SUV drove by.  Slowly.  Shining a light into the woods.  Came by in the other direction, still lamping.  Humph, !@#$ poaching lamping deer hunters, thinks I.   Came by AGAIN, and this time pulled into the end of our driveway, obviously to turn around... By this time I was on slow boil, so I left the horses and marched down the field towards the SUV, asking in playground voice (or whipper-in voice) what the %^&*# did they think they were up to shining lights into the woods.

It was the new police SUV.  When the officer could stop laughing, he explained that someone had called in a report about the bears on the road... He said he pitied anyone who DID cause trouble around here!
