You don't use them in freezing temperatures. The water will freeze in the piping and in the valve mechanism for the cup waterer. They are a great help however, in the warmer months as you just fill a large reservoir (5 gallon buckets work great) a couple times a week and don't have the individual waterers to fill and clean daily. The cup waterers also slop much less water into the bedding, keeping it dry and able to absorb more manure for a much longer time.

As I have been looking at these, I find myself wondering: how do you keep it from freezing up in the winter?
