One of my white ones (I can't tell the Amber Links from the Leghorns!) made me think for a while that she might be a he... The tail feathers grew out two right at the top, stayed that way for several weeks, then quite suddenly the other tail feathers grew out to match--plus the behavior stayed hen-like--so "she" it is. I later noticed one of the Barred Rocks doing the same (I'd ordered two cockerels--this made a third!) but the two long tail feathers have just kept getting longer and curlier, plus the behavior and hackle-feathers indicate this one really *is* male.
And the one with the best set of tail-feathers has already discovered he's got gonads... Not much finesse yet, though, just chase 'em down and jump on 'em... But i did see one of the Rockettes tell him unmistakably to lay off!
