RE: [CHICKENS-101] Storms

Not a tornado, but they say winds hit 60-80 mph in no time flat!
We've been here six years and this was a first!

I must admit I am happy with our Builder's quality work. Not a
single shingle lost off the roof of our house. My DH's garage is another
story. We have paid two different people to do some shingle patching, but
this storm took more.....I think it is time to bite the bullet and re-roof
the garage! A damn shame, too. It is only five years old. The workers
that have been up there said only one nail in the shingles instead of two.
I don't know if that is the problem, or not.......but the subC has
disappeared and gone out of business.

Ya'll sure you didn't have a small tornado or micro burst?
I miss green, grass, lakes and growing stuff everywhere! Deserts brown and
harsh most of the time. But I don't miss the nasty storms.

OMG, I can't believe that storm last night. It seemed to have
come from nowhere and I was expecting to see a witch bicycling by the
window! Our deck furniture went flying, we lost power until 5am and the
roof on two of the coops flew off! Sadly, one of the coops had my Splashie
in it and she was dead this morning. I think the roof may have crushed her
before being lifted..not sure, but she is gone.

Everyone else seems no worse for wear and we repaired the
rooftops, today. Also put electrolytes in everyone's water and made sure
fans were running and shade was available to all.

I have some Silkies chicks that are almost four months old. I
am selling some but keeping some and want to integrate them in with Chi chi
(Splashie's BFF) and the two boys, Barty and Ichibod. So, my thought is to
gradually add hens to the coop, one at a time in the evening when it is dark
and sleepy time. I plan to keep a black hen, blue hen, buff hen. The
little cockerels are going to be kept separate and I don't want to add them
to this mix- I think Barty and Icky will hurt them. Any thoughts?

Laura

PS- Cathryn, Splashie and Chi chi were two that you sent me awhile back.
