Laurie, I've read about dying chicks in the shell with food safe dye. Really do not know if it is legal to dye and sell chicks in other states; here in MI hatcheries and farm stores can't dye and sell chicks. I seen pcitures of dyed chicks and their legs were yellow. A chick's nutrients come from their yolk. Do you know at what point in incubation the eggs are injected with dye?

My regular size silkies that meet the standards for weight are not small. The Netherland reds are very, very small. I should weigh the hens, bet they go a pound and not over. Teeny tiny silkies, male and female. Jerry S gave them to me as a gift.

I dyed a white silkie different colors, named her rainbowsilkies, and donated for our MI Poultry Fanciers club raffle at the April show. (Also donated $250.00 for youth awards.) I was going to enter her in the show but she was needed in her box so people could pet and play with her, and sell lots of tickets. She was  spoiled by the end of the show!!

Silkies are so much fun. Wish you had some of my grays, partridge, and whites I have to sell, all of them do not fit in the main barn so I can't keep them. They are the funniest and sweetest bunch of pullets you could ever wish for, plus beautiful.

Usually I am over run with cockerels for sale, but this time I only have a five. A long downed, white frizzle that takes his broody girls treats, checks on them to make sure all is well, and sits on eggs with them. I will keep him unless someone really special comes along.

Might be talked into parting with a typey white, cute buff, an over typey blue from red, and  gorgeous red. That's it in my roosters and cockerels I can part with. All are typey and very sweet like my pullets.
