<<I have found with a small amount of tiny chickens that they need some 'bulk' of warmth around them for comfort>>
I noticed that when finally I let the two cockerels in with the rest of the chicks (pullets 8-9 days older), they often seemed to be trying to snuggle in underneath the older ones. Most of the pullets either ignored them or pulled away in irritation--but there were a few that actually seemed to make room and try to "tuck them in!" I called it "playing mother."
