> I was wondering if anyone has been successful with a life stock guardian
breed dog to protect their chickens ( Great Pyrenees , ect) ?
yes, livestock guardian dogs can and will protect poultry including from
areal predators. If you want to learn more about them, check www.lgd.org
and consider joining the LGD-L e-mail group, the link to join is at the
site I just posted. If you live in a warm Southern climate I would suggest
to get a short coated breed such as the Anatolian Shepherd instead of a Pyr
that originated as a mountain dog, unless you plan to do a lot of grooming
to keep the coat in top shape to prevent matting, hot spots and keeping
ticks etc. from infesting the dog.
