Our new coop is built like that and for the most part it
the egg eating but the board between the nest area and
our side needs to be a little longer. The chickens can
stick their heads under the board and pull eggs back
with their beaks. They mostly do it because they want
to sit on the eggs. Every now and then we'll find one
that's been eaten but not too often.
DH is going to put an extension on the bottom of the board
just far enough to keep them from sticking their heads under it.
