Certainly would add to the compost, along with the innards.  (I don't think I'd go for the blood-and-peanuts, either...)
 
Regarding the killing cones--apparently the cone (and/or being head down) seems to quiet the birds, which should result in better meat since there would be less stress-caused adrenalin in the tissues.  I would think it made the throat slit much easier, too.
