The cones work well, they hold the chicken rigid with the head down where it is easy to cut the throat. When a bird is held upside down it goes to sleep making killing it easy and much less messy. I just take twine and tie the birds to a cloths line by their legs, they fall asleep and I cut their head off with a sharp knife, no thrashing, no mess. Much easier, less messy, and far more humane than chopping their heads off with a hatchet.
