Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Husbandry

I was/am to a limited degree an animal rescuer and my biggest pet peeve with people seeking new "pets" of any species was the ignorance of not reading about particular creatures of choice.  I can tell you a short story of being at a pet store getting some supplies and listening to a gentleman looking for a small animal for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day.  He chose a ferret as that pet.  However, as one who has had them, I know they have certain issues and what not that one needs to be aware of – they for one smell if not bathed once a week and many are very susceptible to adrenal cancer or insulinoma.  When I confronted him on his being aware of these things, he immediately put the ferret back and decided to think about the choices before making a purchase.

As I said, if there is a way to get some primers into the files section that people can be directed to as starter information, it would be helpful.  The recipes and what not are great for people who already have them.  I myself will be a bag of questions once I am closer to actually acquiring some chicks but I don't wish to be discouraged from asking any questions – it's your expertise/experience that is the best information beyond the primers of any book or website.
