[CHICKENS-101] Re: would a rooster help?

Hi Rita. A rooster has many duties within a flock other than the obvious one of fertilizing eggs. A good rooster keeps the flock of hens feeling secure. He is constantly on watch for enemies. He hunts for goodies and calls his hens when he finds them. Generally a rooster will not bother other animals he does not consider dangerous. A young rooster may chase some at first but will eventually ignore them. I had a small flock of hens that would follow the squirrels right up to the bird feeder and wait for things to drop. They loved that squirrel. So I don't think a rooster would solve your problem although it would most likely make the hens happier.
