We have this same problem! We have found piles of them in a little wooded area beside our house and also under our porch. This drives me nuts! I don't like keeping them in the chicken yard all day, but I also don't like spending money on feed and get nothing in return. We have 13 hens so that can add up to a lot of unused eggs!

I keep the coop door open hoping she'll go back there to lay, but I'm sure she finds the rest of the hard far more attractive than her nesting coop. Does one locate alternative nests? or Lock her up at a particular time of day? Any solutions to this? I'd hate to miss her eggs.
