I have learned the hard way that these elongated eggs mean that the hen is too fat. The body cavity fills with so much fat that the eggs are squeezed into a bullet shape. That will cause laying problems and sometimes the loss of the hen. This hen needs to go on a diet and also get more exercise to burn off the fat she has accumulated.
I don't know if her sporadic laying has lead to fat accumulation or if the fat causes her to lay less often. I do feel that the two issues are related.
You may want to checkout some of your other hens to see if they are headed in the same direction.
My problem was caused by an aggressive rooster. The hens were setting on the roosts trying to avoid him and got too fat.
