I had a few hatchery buff orps a few years ago and they were very good layers of x-large very round and fat eggs. Only thing is they went broody occasionally, which is good if you want a mama hen because they are large and fluffy enough to cover quiet a few eggs.
I've had Buckeye and White Chanticler for almost three years now and am pleased with their size and egg production for duel purpose breeds. Both have been laying for most of the winter, especially the chanticleer. I'm thinking of crossing the two just for my own use. They are very similar except the buckeye are extremely laid back and the chanticleer are a bit jumpy. Nice eye candy though.
