RE: [CHICKENS-101] Why not Purina

Laura,

Where do you buy your feed locally? We have been buying at tractor supply
because I don't know anywhere else around here to buy. I would appreciate
some good food for them for a change.

Thanks

Valerie in Va.

Also check to see if they discount for a certain number of bags
purchased. In the winter, we buy whatever number of bags it takes to get
the discount. I think it is 15 bags for layer feed and 50 cents per bag
discount....not a huge savings, but a savings, nonetheless. Of course, you
must have a place to store it. We have a small 8x10 dutch barn/feed shed.
We only store feed and poultry supplies in it. It is difficult to buy in
volume during the summer...we have such heat and humidity-both bad for
grains.

My biggest reason to buy from our local mill is to support our
local farmers and economy. I don't want any additives from China put into
the feed I buy and they guarantee they don't. Also, it is a co-op, so
technically we have more say.
