Re: [CHICKENS-101] did your chickens get a present

<g> Well, we're working on it... Of course the chickens we'll have, aren't even close to being laid yet...  But I sort of started today on the mobile coop I have planned.  Since we have six widely spaced fields (some pasture, some hayfield, and combinations thereof) I decided I wanted to be able to move the coop around for the hens to range.  I remembered there was a two-wheeled trailer frame my dad used to move hay with--replace the wood, and I'll have the base to a 6' x 8' coop I can move with tractor or pick-up.  So I hacked away the saplings that had sprouted around it, and managed to pull the frame out where we can hook it up and bring it to the house to work on.

Already scavenged a lovely Anderson door with a HUGE window--haven't decided whether to use the door as is for the people door (kind of big), or remove the window to use in a wall.  I think I have some leftover linoleum for the floor (left over from the kitchen a few years ago).  No luck yet running across construction scrap for part of the lumber.  And, I got a waterer and feeder for Christmas--and DH (the one who did the 180 on the idea of chickens!) has offered to do the construction.

Figured if we design the coop right, I can also put together a secure wire run for the biddies, and just back the mobile coop right into it for the winter, or even for a few days if for some reason we can't have the hens out in one of the fields.

Anybody have ideas for what your coop just couldn't do without??
