[CHICKENS-101] Re: thanks and a question

Jean is very correct.  Ivermectin can do great harm to most Border Collies.  I absolutely assure that none of my animals can even get a "lick" of the worm meds when worming my horses.  Now I have a question, which seems logical.  With our horses throughout the U.S. we utilize different worming chemicals throughout the year due to the fact that many become immune to the chemical we are using.  For instance, it has been proven that many throughout the east coast and south have been using "one" chemical for years and unfortunately, the worms are not reacting to it at all, specifically round worms.  Therefore the recommendation by Vets to NOT use the same chemical, to worm horses ONLY when there is an infestation, and then use a different or appropriate chemical for the specific worm.  We take a few "apples" throw them in a bucket of water.  Within a few hours the apples break down and you can tell whether you have a worm infestation.  That or we will take them to a vet to have analyzed and treat accordingly.  The test doesn't cost much.  I'm sure chickens may be different but it sure seems logical that the same circumstances may apply.
