[CHICKENS-101] Re: Ivermectin

Marlene
I, as well as hundreds of other wildlife rehabilitators have used propylene glycol to suspend Ivermectin when injecting a small dose to small mammals. It's the only way to get an exact dose with such a small amount and what's used by veterinarians who guide us in our rehab pursuits.

With small animals (squirrels, rabbits, song birds etc.) the dose for injectable Ivermectin is so small that it can't be dosed full strength, it must be diluted with a suspension agent and propylene glycol is the suspension used. It's also commonly used as a suspension agent for injection with other drugs that precipitate or don't suspend in water.

As far as using Ivermectin mixed in water for oral consumption as a de-wormer for bird flocks, all I can say is to try it; in my experience, it's been effective. However, I don't discount your suggestion of using the oral sheep drench, just not something I'm familiar with but at your suggestion, will now look into.

I'm always up for new information and I appreciate your feedback concerning this ;)
