This is counter-intuitive for me. Why would one restrict food for meat
animals (where you want gain) and keep it available for layers? I'm not
doubting you, George, just trying to understand for myself. (I don't raise
meat birds.) Is it removed to keep improve their interest in feeding?

They really should have feed 24/7 unless they are meat birds like
Cornish/rock cross. Then the feed should be removed at night.
