Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: No Chicken Doctors Here

I'm also a newbie to chickens just to warn you. My mother found out about an on-line video about raising healthy flocks. It's called "Simple Steps to Keep Backyard Poultry Healthy" and I think that it may help you and others in this group. It can be found on the USDA website or more specifically at http://healthybirds.aphis.usda.gov. Also, the link for the video itself is http://www.youtube.com/usdaaphis#p/a/f/0/HLF_fx13qgQ

I hope that these are of help to you.

I'm a newbie to chickens, so take my comments appropriately.

In my area, central Massachusetts, more people are getting backyard flocks. In general, the vets in this area are lagging behind in learning about chickens and how to treat them.

I'm retired from breeding show cats and for years I've been using an excellent veterinary practice. In fact, the AAHP voted this practice as the top veterinary hospital in the country last year. The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is also 20 minutes away and a bird clinic is nearby.
