Maybe she was practicing, getting the feel of the nest box, and didn't lay an egg that time? Could that be a possibility?

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Chickens eating eggs?
My RIR has started laying, and one of the others breeds I have did this morning. The egg was soft and when I picked it up it broke. I checked the egg box and Ouiser was in there trying to lay an egg. I left her alone and went back maybe 45 minutes later and no egg. No sign of one like broken shell or slime from egg. Any ideas? and if they are eating them how do I stop it? Thanks!!
