Sounds like Dovey's name should be Chucky. Lol. I know what you mean though we had a pair of parakeets that the male would "cry" and the female would "laugh" at cop shows (like Law and Order and CSI). The female ended up killing the male. We always talked about how evil she was. She played pranks on us daily and laughed.
I miss having house birds but I don't miss her.

Robin,
I feel for your daughter, lol. Since hot weather here, hubby and I
moved our mattress in the living room, where the AC and my indoor
chickens are, and mornings can get quite noisy with Kellogg, Nesbit, and
Rocky "hollering" at the tops of their little lungs, even two room away,
let alone in the same room. Aggravating as it is, I can't get mad at
them - they are announcing the morning with praise. I should be so
optimistic.
Old man Dovey, the Sebright rooster, will "laugh" only when someone
says something he "thinks" is funny or if you have trouble getting up
and walking. He does this at appropriate - and inappropriate times -
with uncanny timing - to where we are thinking he has an evil sense of
humor. It cracks us up sometimes. But we worry when Dovey "laughs"
during murder scenes in shows. He has done this a couple of times, and
we wonder if he is trying to warn the person, or just excited over
what's going on in "The Box." I think we ought to monitor what the boy
watches, lol.
Yes, I am in therapy....>:o
