hehehehe Lisa... sometimes I think that roosters doing ANYTHING is a waste of energy!! but you're right, it is a tiny bit weird that they mate before they can even lay eggs.

So, just because my chickens have started mating, it does not mean that they are getting close to beginning egg laying.  I guess I just thought that they would not be receptive to the rooster until they were mature enough to begin laying eggs.  Kinda a weird.  All my other animals don't mate until they are mature enough to handle carrying their young.  I know that chickens don't carry their young, but what a waste of energy for the rooster.  Just don't seem right.
