Bite back and roar at him, when he finally looks at you and calms down, then you
can baby him and pet him.
My son is away for the week, so Chuckie & I need to try to get our differences worked out.
I have 3 more chicken pens in the works ... not finished, but chain link "frames" are there. So, I'm opening Chuckie's cage door, then distract him by opening the 2nd door, and then grab him from behind. The first time I did it alone, yep, he bit me, as I was carrying him to put him in the chain link pen that's not finished so I could clean his coop.
Well, I don't know if I did the right thing, but yesterday I took his 2 girls away, so now he's in the coop alone. He didn't know that till I put him back to bed.
Today, when I got him out, I used my same 2 door distraction and grabbed him (by tomorrow, it may not work), but for today it still did. I carried him to the pen under construction and he didn't try to bite me. I even petted his curls and he didn't give me the evil eye.
I told him for the week, while I have to deal with him alone, he's lost his girls, to take away his need to protect them. I was able to catch him back, and put him back in his own coop without him biting me.
I don't know if it's a mistake taking his girls away, but he was easier to deal with today. Maybe if I do this for the week, then give his girls back, and see how he acts toward me??
Or, maybe Mike slipped him some Valium over nite, and today just went calmer.
Do you think that might work ... if he's nice to me, then he can have his girls, and if he's mean to me, then I take his girls away? I sorta feel mean doing that, but if he & I can co-exist, then he can stay. He doesn't have to be friends, but he needs to stop chasing me.
I'll keep trying for now.
Him and food or a treat ... so far, I haven't found anything that really excites him. He's usually too consumed with coming after me. But, today we did ok.
