how do you keep the snakes out?  When I built my coop/run (not quite finished), I used hardware cloth on the bottom 5 feet just for that reason.

I still have vivid memories when, as a kid, I reached into a nesting box and grabbed hold of a huge blacksnake.  After I got it out, we could see that it had swallowed 4 eggs.  Never saw my momma so mad!

You are correct, Liz, in that the portability of the tractor type of run/coop makes it more vulnerable to predators.  You could have a sturdy coop for nighttime and use the tractor during the day.

I don't have a tractor system.  My pens are 5X10 foot dog kennels, the Doc Bob ones sold by Tractor Supply, with fiberglass roofing.  I use wood shavings for bedding and hanging water and feed containers.
