THANK YOU Marlene, I will keep this post as a reference.  I am terrible with estimating weights and measures but this will help a lot.

a gallon is about 3.6 kg so you could pick up a hen and then pick up a gallon jug to get a feel for it, one kg is 2.2 lbs so if a hen weighs 5 1/2 lbs that's 2.5 kg. Don't know how big your chickens are, if they are on the smaler side they are probably on the 3 kg side, if they are the heavier breeds then they are probably closer to 4 kg,
