Re: [CHICKENS-101] Officially snowed in...

Right here with you Stuart. I kept thinking they were blowing this thing out of proportion like they often do. They weren't. I wish I had done more winterizing. It just wasn't winter like to me most of December & I just couldn't get myself motivated to do it. The chickens have it better though then they have in years past. They're locked in the barn with the cows but in their coop area they have feed and I'm going to throw them some more treats in a bit. The younger chickens have it the best of all outside animals and the chicks inside are in the lap of luxury. I hope the electricity holds since the husband decided not to repair the woodstove the oldest dd broke and we are operating on gas heat now (yes I know that doesn't need electricity totaly but it does for the gas powered central air).
I hope you and yours stays as warm and safe as possible and that none of us loses power.

Yep,
six inches and coming down hard. blowing around. drifts a couple
of feet high between house and coop. almost could not get out my door
to go tend my birds. i'm glad i made more scratch feed
yesterday...ground up about 5 bushels of corn, mixed it with milo and
oats so i have about 8 bushels of scratch now.

i'm not even opening the coop doors today...at least not until the snow
stops coming down and I can spread some hay for them to walk around
on. it is supposed to be -8 by tomorrow morning, so i might just leave
them all "cooped up" for a couple of days. i will be in and out all
day today keeping track of them between warming my hands.

i guess a lot of central and south central united states is getting
this today...70 something a couple of days ago and zero or below with
snow blowing. gotta love that global warming.
