Re: [CHICKENS-101] Mineral Oil Alternative?

Jewel, Any time.   In the class I took I was surprised to learn that canola seed and oil is toxic to chickens.  It was stressed to us to stay away from it in our feed.  I am so glad that some is passing thru her.  Hopefully in a day or two you will have her back to normal.  Just in case, I would dilute vinegar with water, (teaspoon in a cup of warm water) and give her drops of it to help fight sour crop.  Sure hope it is a food blockage, not a protozoa. Awesome. Thank you Cathryn. I looked up Grape Seed oil too, which I have here
(it's supposed to be a healthier fat even when cooked at a high temperature).
We gave her some and gave her a little crop massage. I hope she poos!

Wow, that's SO GOOD to know about Canola oil. I had no idea. I wondered what
it was that makes Canola toxic, and I found this link:

wondered a little more about Grape Seed oil and I found this:

p.s. She just dropped a little poo while I was writing.

Jewel, I prefer olive oil over mineral oil. Never use canola oil. Canola is
poisonous to birds. I learned that in a disease class at MSU. I'd use a food
oil over mineral oil. Cath
