Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Removing rooster's spurs with a baked potato!
This is a very old method of removing a roosters spurs. At least I have heard it told for many years. Theoretically it should work. The heat softens the spur making it easy to pull off. Never met anyone who actually tried it. Most roosters I have met were not of the cooperative kind. In fact some, the red ones, were worth your life just picking one up. So holding a combative roo in one hand and a very hot potato in the other calls for some serious athletic ability. I think I would check your insurance to see if you are covered. You might just qualify for a "Darwin Award". Then there is the issue of what kind of potato, with the varieties available these days I wouldn't know which one to use. Just too complicated its easier to shoot the rooster then you don't have to worry about the spurs.
