Oh, yes, single ducklings bond strongly to whatever they perceive as their 'mama'. I have a pair of ducks sitting on eggs at the moment. I'm hoping they are successful and are able to hatch them.

Thanks Georgia. That will solve that problem should it occur. When I was about 12 in the mid50s I came home one day with one of those dyed"peepers" during Easter time. I assumed it was a chicken. I managed to get it past my parents and began to raise it in the back yard. After awhile it became quite apparent that my chicken was really a duck! I raised it anyway and he became a 2ft tall beautiful white bird that followed me all over the yard. One day Mom said the bird had to go and fortunately we had inlaws that lived on a ranch {Ohio valley] that had a large lake with swans and other ducks where I am sure he lived happily everafter.
