Susan, I am in a city surrounded by wildlife that challenge people and are not afraid of dogs.  Even worse are the neighbors who think they have the right to use my horse pasture as their feeding station and dump their garbage and feed over the fence.  I throw it back when I find it, even if it means I have to walk and/or take the tractor back up for gloves and shovel.  I've tossed it as far as I can back in their yard, scattered.  Not only does their garbage food attract wild life, but it attracts it to my property. I am so sorry for your loss.  Opoossums are a real danger around here, but it has been a while since I have seen one.  I think the dogs scare them away.  And we are in a neighborhood.    Susan
