Heather, the one thing I tell people, find a piece of land you like that
is for sale...buy the land...pay it off as quick as you can, then work
on the rest. Land is going up in price. I got my 27.7 acres for
$45,000 and now it is would be around $60,000 if not more. Go camping
on it in the summer, visit it to make it real...Do it small and do not
overwhelm the budget. Down there, there are still agents that allow
contract for deed which is easier on most people than a mortgage through
the bank. If I decide to buy the house we are renting, it will be a 7
year loan at 9% interest. Higher than you might pay on a bank note, but
my credit sucks and this made land ownership possible for me. He is
asking too much for the one I am renting which is why I am not
interested in buying it. If he was to come down $10,000 on it, I would
do it, but not what is on it right now.
Look around as you could find something that would not break the budget
but would be ready for you when you are.
