I don't know, Ruth, by my old chow was scared to death of chickens and ants. He would watch an ant come clear across the patio towards him - no problem - but if it got within an inch of his paw he freaked out. The only thing he hated more was water.
He didn't seem to mind the wild birds dive bombing him while he was napping outside during the spring and snatching up great hunks of the coat he was blowing, though. I don't think he ever figured out what the heck was really happening. If he could have talked, the most-used word in his vocabulary would have been, "Huh?"
