Re: [CHICKENS-101] What the heck is that out there!

UK snow made the USA National News last night.  So we over on this side of the pond got to see it - up close and personal!    I thought of you, Jane, and wondered if you had any where you live.

8 am I went off down the garden to let the girls out of their coop into the compound.BUT, some time through the night it snowed, yes that horrible fluffy white stuff that most kids love.
(Bearing in mind this year we bought 4 new pullets who only started laying in june/July. The girls we had from the year before were actually already out of their coop roaming around when we had last years snow & it did not seem to phase them.)
But not our new girls, as I opened the pop hole door 'Zed', went to step out, took one look at the snow & stopped dead in her tracks, along with 'B.G' by her side. They looked & they looked & they looked again!
I decided to open the main door, so the rest of the girls could make up their own minds as to whether or not they wanted to risk entering out into the unknown. They all seemed to decide it was too much! lol.
So hung up thier fresh water in their coop & put two feeders of layers pellets in the coop & left, then Braveheart decided she could not be bothered waitng anymore & decided to brave the elements.
She marched out as if to say "whats all the fuss about!"
She was followed soon afterwards by 'Clueless', who promptly went up into the a-frame chicken coop to lay her egg. I came indoors then & by 12 oclock all the girls were out.
It was then time to let them out of the compound for a few hours before nightfall.
I have just given them a treat of cooked rice, dry oats, wholemeal bread 2 very well mashed up hard boiled eggs & 1 tin of sardines in sunflower oil all mixed in well & divided into 2 large bowls. Boy are they enjoying that.
I love my chickens they are sooo entertaining! Jane & Co.
